The Whirlwind of Homeschooling, Creating, and Living

There are days when it feels like there’s just too much: too many tasks, too many dreams, too little time. 

I homeschool my 9 year old soon to be 10. I create educational content for him as he grows and his interests expand. I obsess over his curriculum, so much so that I am creating Bring On The Art®, my own publishing company for coloring books, educational content, and more. It's a huge part of my life and will bloom into something bigger later.

I love our backyard farm. It consists of a small vegetable garden and a flock of chickens. I wrangle our cats and befriend the neighborhood crows, and we all keep eyes on that murderous falcon who is beautiful and deadly and craves poultry for breakfast. The plants ground me, especially the corn and okra when they whisper to me in their special way. 

I thrive on creating fantasy art and surrealism, and recently I added to my subject matter. Three years ago in a desperate attempt to help my mental and physical health, since both were at a type of breaking point, I fell into Muay Thai. I have fallen in-love with it. So much so it has become a favorite subject to draw and sketch. It has helped me more than I can say, and it's something I share about often.

In the midst of all the chaos and challenges of life, I feel deeply blessed. There’s something sacred about making art while nurturing a little one’s mind. About pouring all of myself into a home that’s alive with creativity and plants and weeds and the spiders I speak to and thank for killing the flies, and the dustballs in the corners and the laundry that never ends and the glimmering and fleeting moments of peace, of working out until my legs shake and my grin almost reaches both my ears.

Life is short, and I know there’s no time to waste. I want to create while I’m here, to share what I have, to be present for it all, to be strong even when it feels like I’m running on fumes, and to learn to rest. Each small moment is a gift, and I want to make it count.
