SCIART Annual Member Exhibition 2025 – See Moonshell in Person!
I’m delighted to announce that my painting Moonshell has been accepted into the SCIART Annual Member Exhibition 2025! This group show, featuring incredible works by various artists, runs from March 1 to March 28, 2025, at Studio Channel Islands Art Center in Camarillo, CA. I’ll be at the opening reception on March 1, from 4 PM to 6 PM, and I’d love to see you there!
Moonshell – A Celebration of Strength and the Sea
Mermaids have long been the folk story representation of our deepest connection to the source of all life: water. In Moonshell, I explore that connection through the image of a sea witch who is wise, untamed, and powerful. Society has a long history of demonizing powerful women, casting them as dangerous or wicked when they embrace their strength. But here, she is neither feared nor condemned. She swims in her full, unashamed form, wielding the power of her intuition, embodying the depth of emotion that water represents. In a world that tells women to shrink themselves, I paint my mermaids big, bold, and free, celebrating feminine essence in all its vastness.
This 36” x 48” acrylic on canvas painting, created in 2024, is rich with deep blue and purple jewel tones. Aqua and cobalt paint drips upward, evoking the movement of water. She is nude and instead of a traditional mermaid tail she has octopus tentacles, her long hair transforming into twisting cephalopod limbs. In her hand she wields a wand glowing with the light of a magical moonshell, illuminating the darkness around her.

The end of exhibition will conclude with a silent auction and fundraising event on March 29, 2025. While I won’t be attending that evening, it’s a great chance to support the arts and add a unique piece to your collection.
