Monday Blues…I Mean Purples
Some digital love for you this Monday.
Sunday Manxy
Working on getting more comfortable with custom brushes and making things directly in photoshop. This warm-up painting came out cute, so I wanted to share! I think I might start peppering my sketch postings with some digital work, when it works out.

Tonight.
Tonight, I will not work on illustrations, coloring books, graphic novels, reference research, or exercise. Tonight, I will go home and rest and enjoy the company of loved ones. May everyone find peace tonight, despite the day's, the week's, trials.Got My Proof for Sleepless
I finally got my proof for "Sleepless, Volume 1" from the self publisher, CreateSpace!! The cover stock is shiny and thick, and the print quality does a good job of showing the graphite drawings. Overall the product is quite good for the price and the print-on-demand factor. However, I am going to correct the file and order another proof. As you will see in the photos below, there are some gutter problems at the moment ; the image gets partially cut in the middle. I don't mind having that wide of a gutter because this printing process keeps the 100 page books under $20, I just need to prepare my imagery properly so it isn't as chopped. There is something satisfying about the ISBN on the back...so official! My Email List offers DISCOUNTS!
Tis that time, and I am here to tell you that my email list which is NOT a bother, does not sell your information, is totally private and not run by a robot, will be offering discount codes on my publishing and art. If you are NOT yet a part of my email list, I encourage you to sign up by clicking here, or by signing up below.James Jean “REBUS” show was wonderful
Its very rare I get to partake in a pre-show, and hopefully it will happen more often. The crowd was mellow, conversational, and moved slowly from piece to piece. The chatter was low, considerate. This is quite different from the accustomed art student/indie music crowd that gets a little aggressive. We left before it got as crowded as you see here in this video shot & edited by Jason Jaworski. The space itself was interesting, but Monsieur Jean's formidable work could have used more space. The lights put some glare on the pieces, and sometimes one had to bend down to properly see the detail and care in his work. Enjoy some of these photos, however my mighty camera-phone is still just that: a camera-phone. For better images, visit the site of James Jean himself. He was kind, and dealt well with the throng which started to crowd him into a corner. I look forward to his future work! Special thanks to Ronnie Pirovino! Also, James' OVM Lotus War scarf is completely made in Japan, and he has decided that all its proceeds will go to the Red Cross.Ordered My Proof For “Sleepless”
I ordered my proof for my graphic novel, so I get to see what the final printed product will look like before its available for market. I have also included my favorite sketches from my past sketchbooks as a bonus, so I'm very excited to see this in its final format. The next steps are to get it in the iBook market for the ipad, and planning a book signing party when all is approved and ready for purchase! Tonight, its all about the James Jean pre-show<swoon>. Hopefully some of his creative magic osmotes into my brain. It is a very odd sensation to be able to meet an artist who I have been following for so long, nearly stalked at COMICON, and now I get to see his first solo show in Los Angeles. If I manage to take some picture with my Droid I'll be posting them tomorrow for Friday fun. You have my apologies. I have been too busy to post sketches. I have one 1/2 finished, waiting for my TLC, and I haven't even given her a second glance since trying to get this book published. May your Thursday feel like a Friday, and may the kind gentleman at Life Food Organic be blessed for giving me that health tonic. I DO feel better. Cold, cold, stay away! I do not have the time nor the patience to get sick, but especially not today. NOT TODAY! <holds tiny fist in air>Artist to Follow: Irina Vinnik
Oh. wow. Looking at this artist's sketchbook is taking me to better places - i can't help but feel oogly and fluffy when looking at this line work - theses shapes - please check it out - its beautiful. This is the work of Irina Vinnik - an artist I am following as of today. Wow.Cover preview for “Sleepless, Volume 1″
To give you a taste of what I have been working on: getting my sketchbook into publishable format. That includes designing a front and back cover. So, here you go - share time!
