Fashion Desires : Coat of my Dreams

This coat must be mine. It will be mine. As long as they don’t sell out from ModCloth before the end of January, I might be able to afford it…or not. This excellent piece is of soft, dark charcoal grey, double-layer collar, hidden snap closure, zipper cuffs, a sleek storm flap, back pleat, and black and white checkered satin lining. But hold the presses, my heart hijacking is not over yet. The capelet is removable, and the jacket looks just as stunning without it. Paired with a 20’s flapper hat and away goes my heart.
Behold, the outfit of my dreams for a warm walk on a chilly grey day with the love of my live, complete with links so you can either suffer with me in our pining, or you so something about it, unlike me, and posses these works of enveloping art. Click on the more below for the rest of the photos of the Grey-t Caper Coat, Louise Hat, Fiddle Boots, Spiced Cider Dress, and V is for Vixen Tights

Klaus Kinski – what big eyes you have

Klaus Kinski (Wiki Page Link) was German actor from roughly 1948 to1989…I have never seen any of his films, and honestly I think they might scare me…from what I’ve read of them. But he has the most frightfully deep eyes I have ever seen. I could stare at these photos forever and a day. I must draw him. I think I will model one of my characters out of a story I have after him. What a face. My goodness. I’m still staring. If i had one ounce of his gravitas I wouldn’t even know how to work it. I’d just stare at people until they vaporized.

The image was found and aken from here, a brilliant blog of imagery and art.

Wonder Girls “Nobody But You”

Yet another Video Treat. Tis the season for some visual stimulus.
Anything that treats early Motown-like influence in a popped, glossed, and idealized soft glow will most likely win my heart. Pencil skirts, bobs, sequins, and the golden era of the backup singer makes me swoon.

The Best Version of Jingle Bells EVAH!

Happy Christmas to all those who need some happy in their Christmas, and for those tho are not fans for one reason or another, I wish you a good old fashioned “Happy”, cause we all need some this time of year. I hope everyone enjoys this clips as much as I did – as the Huffington Post so aptly put it:

This is easily the most messed up version of “Jingle Bells” ever recorded. It’s like they took the classic song, soaked it in a tub of LSD, then took a match to it. But they never actually lit it on fire – just sort of teased it to the point where it mutated ever so slightly. THEN, they brought in whoever choreographed the ending to “Slumdog Millionaire” to throw on the finishing touch. But the thing is, it’s kind of amazing.

Type Envy

As usual, Veer sent me a beautiful type promotion – I love these, so I will share. I’m going to buy one of these fonts and layout a children’s book with it. The time to train the eye starts an an early age, and children who are just learning the shapes of letters should learn them in their loveliest forms. However, to all you type fanatics out there, I love Cooper Black (I’m am actually laying out my first kid’s book with Cooper Black!). Always have, always will. Its the fat, comforting, staple mashed potatoes with lots of gravy kind of type…and its excellent for kids. And for nearsighted people. And old people. I’ll stop. Here are the pictures of DeSoto and Phaiton!

Fede Alvarez : Youtube artist turned HOLLYWOOD director!

Quote from an article on Yahoo BUZZ Blog! Amazing story!

Here’s a fairy tale that could only happen in the movies. Man makes YouTube video. Goes to Hollywood. Gets pots of money and a movie deal. Except this story is true..

…An unknown producer from Uruguay, Fede Alvarez, shelled out about $300 to create a cool video of a robot invasion in Montevideo, the capitol of Uruguay. The four-minute short, “Ataque de Panico!” (Panic Attack) features ginormous (but slow-moving) weapon-wielding robots that blow stuff up….

…Well, apparently nothing gets by Hollywood these days. The lucky duck told the BBC, “I uploaded ‘Ataque de Panico!’ on a Thursday and on Monday my inbox was totally full of emails from Hollywood studios.” Long story short, a bidding war ensued. The offer he pocketed: A $30 million deal with Sam “Spiderman” Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures. That’s a nice return on investment.

What English Sounds Like: A Gibberish Song

“Prisencolinensinainciusol”, written by Adriano Celantano wrote it in 1972
The video is meant to illustrate which English phonemes and syllables carry into the foreign ear, and I have to say, it sounds like English to me! Although I have NO idea what they are saying! Enjoy this odd gem of video English Gibberish.

Fashion Desires : I’m Just Bag About Saffron

Yellow is hard, but with the right kind, like a Saffron, a Tumeric, or a non muddy Mustard, it is a brilliant splash of color on dark or severe palette. Black coat, eggplant dress, and a trim, useful, but sassy saffron bag slung across a shoulder beats away all rainclouds into cheery hugs.
This color goes great with many shades of dark purple, charcoals, black, much turquoise and few aqua by the nature of its contrast. That’s quite a spread. This bag would be perfect for my wardrobe. Versatility, function, pleats…oh my.

As usual, a Modcloth item (named “Classic Make and Model Bag in Mustard”)

“Clients From Hell” website

So brilliant, we couldn’t make it up if we wanted to.

Here are a few quotes from http://clientsfromhell.tumblr.com/ , a wonderful website I invite anyone dealing with clients in a visual field to read and enjoy. Happy Friday, my fellow humans. No matter how beautiful and vile out condition may be, at least we are in it together.

“It is nice, but the frame…can you make it less squarey?”

“It’s so good to finally meet you. Thank you very much for coming. We have no money.”

“You’re the designer, Why do you need information from me?”

“Can you please put page numbers on the two-sided postcard? I’m not sure people will know how to get to the other side.”

A Rainbow Through The Glass

Remember when it was raining? People at my work started to freak out hen we saw the huge, perfect arc of a rainbow outside out work window.  Half of our floor sent out emails, called eachother, and ran to see the beauty of the prisms and light.

Again, photos taken from my brilliant Verizon Droid – I might not allways have my camera on me, but I have my phone on me a lot.

Coconut Carrying Octopus

Mr. Strand, thank you for this fantastic link. I love me my cephalopods, but this one has grabbed and run across the sea floor with my heart. Please, enjoy. May Wednesday prove be to easier than Tuesday was.

Why I Love Being Outside

A couple of weekends ago, we went hiking in our backyard mountains. It was glorious. Here are a few photos taken on my Verizon Droid:

It was hiking in these mountains that I started to get some ideas again for stories, and fleshing out some of the already established series I am still ruminating one. (I ruminate a lot before I start writing certain stories) To be out in nature and breath fresh air, look far in the distance, to have creativity deem me worthy to visit. Its amazing how much it takes to be attractive to the creative muse, to have it come by and say, “Hey, you’re lookin good, you’re doing well, you’re rested – lets have us a chat!”

What I’ve Been Working On

So, I mentioned I was working on a few things.
I designed and did some motion for the website for “Santa Buddies”, a Disney DVD mogul of a series. The movie is not something I loved as I am far too old to appreciate it, but we made the website pretty awesome, and its talking puppies. Please enjoy. Those peeps with kids, PLEASE enjoy. If your kids don’t like the site then I have failed.

Also, remember The Princess And The Frog? Our amazing team has updated the site, it has more content, great features, and all around kicks some serious sass. I can hardly wait for this anmation to come out. I was very grateful I got to be part of this amazing movie in some way. This is a project I will remember, not just because of the sweat and the tears, but what I see as a cultural significance for all those girls, boys, and adults like myself, who needed to see a different princess.
Oh, and if you see any online banner campaigns, I had my design fingers in those as well.

I’m ALIIIIIIVE!

Hello! Greetings! Happy December! Yes, I live. I have been gone in the land of “oh dear fate please let me keep my job” and working hard to make sure fate favors me. Unfortunately, doing so had burned me out creatively. I had not sketched in over 2 months. However, I am finally getting my energy back together for another Armada of Art. You shall see me more oft’ on the blogosphere not just sharing my work but the artists, people, fashions, patterns, and art that excite me and inspire me.
I invite you to comment and to share links/videos/projects you deem similarly memorable, and maybe we can all come out brighter and fresher despite the economic mood and the impending holiday fuss.

And now, time for some pattern appreciation to start the week off:
Found this on a couch – yeah, the couch was sort of AWESOME, like a hound’stooth pattern bit M.C. Escher

Found this on a button up, collared shirt a friend was wearing, its like a 70′s hawaiin hibiscus plant, or Cremed Tiki:
