Daily Sketch Wednesday : Stationary 1
I enjoy the tactile experience of writing a letter by hand, with a pretty pen, on pretty paper, trying to formulate a complete thought before writing it down..the whole process is something that takes effort, time, and I enjoy all of it very much. My favorite part, other than sending it to a friend, is choosing the paper and the envelope. So I went on a search for stationary. I was extremely disappointed. It seems, that to get any kind of stationary that is remotely logical, like a nice sheet of paper at a good size, more than one sheet per envelope, and a distinct style or look that is refreshing and some reflection of my mood without overwhelming the page, one needs to go to the specialty stationary store 50 miles from where I live. Everything else is cremes, monograms, one sheet of paper per envelope…etc.
It made me wonder…have I changed, have my standards for stationary changed really so much that I cannot find anything I like anywhere unless I go to a specialty shop? Or is it that people don’t write letters anymore..at all. I know there’s less of it, obviously….but then wouldn’t that make the occasion of picking up a nice pen and fancy paper even MORE special? Wouldn’t it be an even bigger deal?
There’s PLENTY of thank you cards with what you want to write filled in FOR you….so..they must be selling well if there are so many of them.
Its just odd.
So, anyway, I’ve got a few ideas for stationary that I want to make for myself. I might be sketching them out this week. And here’s two ideas on one page.
Fashion Desires : The Shirelles Oxford
Another fantastic shoe from modcloth, the Shirelles Oxfords.

The Other Day’s Big Thing – It Likes the Tickles!
“It appears to be some kind of alien, sir. It could be here to take over the planet. Should we destroy it? I don’t know. Let’s just tickle it for now.”
I have discovered the Johnny Weir
I have discovered the Johhny Weir. My goodness – you will be seeing some sketches inspired by him on occasion, as I find him gorrrrrrgeous. Look at the shapes he makes with his hands and wrists. I love the dipping of his shoulders, such gorgeous shapes. Skate on, Johnny, skate on.
And now, I’m going to share with you some photos I took without his permission off his website. Look at his hands – the movement goes from chin to neck to fingertip. I wish I could draw that shape, that movement, to capture that…
This man is inspiring me all kinds of drawings right now! That jawbone! I’m not even a fan of figure skating, I found him because Perez Hilton posted a video clip of him skating to Lady Gaga’s Poker Face and his grace and sass just struck me.
Sarcasm I CAN understand
Those of you who know me personally have first hand experience with my “confused face” when someone is trying to be funny by way of sarcasm. The episode usually plays out like this: Funny guy enters conversation. Canny remark imbued with TV nostalgic references or other such smart stuff. Their genius wit is lost in my blank stare. “That was mean,” I state, unblinking. “Geez, I was being sarcastic…sorry..didn’t mean to offend,” is the usual response, to which I respond with my foot in fast route to my mouth, “Sarcasm is the lies of cowards.”
Yeah. I’ve nicknamed myself Buzz-kill.
Anyway, THIS I get, not that this makes my lack of humor any better, but at least you can understand the title of this entry now.

Fashion Desires : Taxicab Confessions
Great heels from modcloth.
I love the perceived gray framed in marigold~mustard, and the asymmetrical swoop overtaking the top of the foot. I can rarely say no to a side slung buckle. For shame its not available in my size!
Daily Sketch Friday : Squidheart
SO I’ve finally done the first sketch for a character I’ve been mulling about in my head. I guess her and squidface are friends. But there’s a story developing around this one. Several scenes have already presented themselves to me – we’ll see what happens. Be expecting more sketches with this character. I should do one with her and squidface.

Not only great idea and well executed (two completely independent processes and each so important), but where did they get those beautiful bottles?
